In which direction should Europe go - The United States of Europe or as the Nations of Europe?
GERB as part of the EPP supports the model of “EU – Federation”, we work for the acceptance of the Lisbon Treaty. It is early to talk about The United States of Europe. The main priority before the EU is to build an European identity.
What do you think about the acceptance of new countries in the Union? When will the countries from the West Balkans and Turkey become members of the EU?
GERB supports the West Balkans and the enlargement of the EU. But there are three main difficulties. They are the Financial Crisis, the Lisbon Treaty, because as Nicolas Sarkozy said the acceptance of new members is impossible without the acceptance of the Lisbon Treaty and finally the two way relations.
We fully support the Balkan countries and their acceptance in the Union. That’s why we have made many two way initiatives with other parties from the Balkans and the EPP, which are supposed to change the stereotype between their relations with the EU.
What should Bulgaria’s priorities be in the EU?
We need to earn back and restore the trust of the EU, so we can receive the European Funding. We need to start to be more active members, which also includes too help our neighbors also join the Union.
What would your personal priorities be if you are chosen as a MEP?
I would work on the two priorities I mentioned. I would also work so the voice of the young can be heard in Europe.
Monika Panayotova is a candidate for MEP and is placed 7th on GERB’s list.
